Educators using VoiceThread for English/Lang Arts from Joanie Batts

Description

This VoiceThread shows current and new educators how VoiceThread can be used in English/Language Arts courses by asking students to assemble a creative artifact that weaves in literacy benchmarks: poetry, personification, and 21st Century New Literacies.

Process/Assignment

  1. Made a list of John Care's I Am Poem stanzas
  2. Defined the word personification
  3. Created a written poem
  4. Uploaded pictures
  5. Added music for emotional effects

This VoiceThread is a digital artifact of John Clare's "I Am Poem." Hence, personification is identified using his poetry stanzas. I used this as an example for colleagues at Walden University to promote the use of Voicethreads to achieve these academic targets.

Challenges or setbacks

The easiest part of this project was creating the poem, and the most difficult part was uploading music to the VoiceThread.

Tools

  • I uploaded personal pictures (digtal camera)
  • Used two computers because I did not have a microphone

Tips

Let the kids teach you because they know a lot more than I did about uploading audio files and technology actions.

Variations

I have many other examples of VoiceThreads. Feel free to look them up: http://voicethread.com/#u109217
